On August 27, 2023, we had yet another auspicious Taking Refuge Online ceremony for the year. This was also the the second online ceremony hosted by Global Meditation Center New York (part of Dharma Drum Retreat Center), after previous sponsorship (with Dharma Drum Mountain San Francisco Bay Area Center) ended last year.
As more worldwide practitioners understand Why Take Refuge in the Three Jewels, we had a group of four (4) fellow Chan practitioners from Belgium, Philippines, and the United States.
Here is the heartwarming words of sharing from one of the practitioners, to “share the precious forward” for practitioners coming in the future:

from Lukas:
I am very grateful to the Dharma Drum Mountain for offering me the opportunity to take refuge online, together with expressing vows and committing to five precepts. It is an important moment in the life of the person becoming Buddhist and I am glad I could share it with a group of people from all over the world. I find it necessary to leave a public trace of this event (picture and some witnessing words on the website) because the commitment to the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha should be meant seriously as a whole life pledge to the right path, being beneficial both for oneself and for the others.
Our world is full of suffering and this suffering is to a large extent caused by human behaviour: war, killing, poverty, social exclusion, lack of access to food and health care, pollution, bad environment and climate change. I wish that as many people as possible could find a way towards Buddhism because that would lead to lowering the suffering and the world could become a better place.
